With the significant rise in advanced technology, some equipment is mostly outdated. However, some equipment is tried and true and remains effective in the classroom, i.e. the board. IWB boards are now replacing black boards in most well developed countries. Both the black/white boards can be very helpful in lesson planning. The Overhead Projectors have been primarily replaced by computers, however there are still some advantages. The overhead transparencies can be used for worksheets and reused over and over again. The cassette recorder is mostly obsolete and replaced with the CD, as the same with video cameras being replaced by cameras on smartphones. Although they are antiquated, a teacher can still record students in active sessions and play it back for discussion. Today, dictionaries and computers are by far the most useful tools in the classroom for learners of English. They are excellent resources of knowledge to help students to produce the language. The computer can use a number of websites and other reference tools to aid in teaching. Regardless of the equipment that a teacher uses, whether outdated or modern, the most important goal should be to expand the students' knowledge base of the language.
