This unit highlights different methods a teacher might use to manage a classroom. There are small things noted in this unit, such as eye contact and hand gestures, that can change the dynamic of a class. Changes in the frequency and intensity of either of these (such as more or less direct eye contact or the use/lack of hand gestures) can either relax the atmosphere of a class or make it seem more formal. The unit also mentions an intentionality that should go into designing a seating chart, which can also affect a classroom environment. Qualities like personalities, nationalities, and ages should be taken into account when structuring such a chart. I have noticed that many of the things mentioned in units that talk about concepts of managing classes or theories, methods, and techniques all require an exceptional amount of mindfulness and intentionality?nothing seems to happen by coincidence because everything has a purpose and exists by design. However, even with this design in mind, there is a need for flexibility that can adapt to any classroom situation. As I move through these units, I am gaining an even greater appreciation for the teachers I have been lucky to have had throughout my years of schooling.
