Teach English in Huangdong Yaozu XiAng - Hezhou Shi
This unit covered teaching of receptive skills, both listening and reading. The unit covered factors often unnoticed by a native English speaker but form important factors when teaching listening and reading to students. These factors include the manner we read and/or listen as well as the reasons behind it. For example a person may read a paper for the reason of finding out information about a certain event that just happened, as such instead of reading the paper from cover to cover the person would merely scan the paper for the article they where interested in. The unit taught me the potential difficulties that can occur when teaching the aforementioned receptive skills and how to minimise/overcome them. Practises such as carefully selecting the texts you plan on using with the students in addition to pre-teaching select vocabulary if needed can prove markedly helpful. Also when possible incorporating material that is of interest to the students can help improve the enjoyment of the lesson for the students that thus creates better learning atmosphere and helps build interest and motivation in the subject matter. The unit finished by giving me some examples of lesson plans and activities that can be used for them.
