I feel this unit thirteen is very important to teachers who teach students of another mother tongue as in my experience, learning another language, and teaching another language can reveal how difficult, but important it is to catch the rhythm of the language one has turned their ear to. There is a good percentage of Japanese, in particular, that try to learn pronunciation from Phonemic Symbols and most Japanese schools teach this to their teenage students. I was very surprised when a young Japanese asked me what a 'word' meant (using the phonemic spelling of the word) and to which I had no idea of at that time, so I am glad to see the phonemic table here and I believe that all teachers should learn it if they want to help their students. The Japanese have problems with certain sounds like 'clown' and 'crown' as well as 'v' and 'the' sounds. It takes a lot of invested time to co-navigate the tongue between the Alveolar Ridge and the Velum before the plosive sounds of the vocal folds find their way out of the correct bilabial channels. The sound of 'L' in Japan is non-existent and that goes for the sound of 'V' and the sound of 'The' amongst others, which, unlike the sound of music, is not present in the Kana script.
