What I learnt from Unit 15 is about evaluation and testing of students. In discuss about evaluating students? level and progress, as well as preparation for students external examinations. There are a number of ways to assess a student?s language level: tutorials, evaluations by the students and tests. Tutorials is about reviewing the work has done in the class, discussing the aims of the lesson, how well the students performed and discussing any problem in the class. Students evaluation is to ask students to evaluate their course by means of questionnaire or guided discussion or survey about their performance. There are may different type of testing students that teacher can use: Placement test, progress test, diagnostic test and practice test. First is about the placement test that are design to allow the teacher to place student into an appropriate level of class. It is include all the testing skills (writing, reading, speaking and listening) . the progressive of the test usually start from easy and become more harder. So the answer will provide more information about the students? proficiency level. Second is the progress test is to asses which language items have been retained and which one need revision. It can be done weekly, monthly, or after 5 units of 1 books that been covered. The test will include all four skills as well as grammar and vocabulary. The progress test often required by the school or language center. Third is the diagnostic test that are given at the start of the course to see what the students? weakness or strength, and to help teacher to focus on planning lessons and materials that can address any problems identified in the exam. Fourth is the practice test that are given for revision purpose. The test format should be near as possible to the style and content of the real exam. There are three general categories for the practice exams: first is for the general English test (Cambridge Assessment: KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE), second is for the business English test (BEC, BULATS) and last is for the academic test (TOEFL, IELTS). In conclusion, as teacher I wish the students with the best results regarding the grade of the exam and wish them to continue to learning English for the future.
