This unit focuses on modals phrasal verbs and passive voice This unit examines model auxillary verbs and the passive voice as well as over view of phrasal verbs and relative clauses. Basic rules The ?modal? are: can, may, might, shall, will, would,must,have to,have got to,need not, and ought to. They are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb. Modals can be used to expressa number of different ideas such as -obligation ?l really must go now, my friends expecting me . -possibility ?probability ?I might go shopping tomorrow -permission /prohibition ?you may leave now. -Ability ?I can speak six languages -Advice ?you should see a doctor about that . Modal auxiliary verbs don?t change in form according to person /. Relative clause A relative clause in introduced by a relative pronoun :who ,which that ;whose whom etc ? there may be no relative pronoun .There are his types of relative clauses defining and non-defining . Phrasal verbs Phrasal verbs ,or much ?word verbs ,consist of a verbs plus one or his particles (A particles may be a preposition or an adverb ,or an adverb plus a preposition ) They operate as one item ? there are three basic types of phrasal verbs . ?
