Holy cow! This unit has so much in it that I have no background knowledge in! I learned so much about the places of articulation with it's beautifully scientific and foreign words, such as palatal, alveolar, and labio-dental referring respectively to the roof of the mouth, the tongue and the lips. I think it would be helpful to understand these different contexts of the way speech works in order to adhere to the many different learning styles of your students. If teachers aren't intimidated to teach this sort of lesson than the way that students learn will be changed for the better I think. English speakers will be more competent and confident in how they are speaking the language.
