This unit discusses the grammar of modal verbs, the passive voice, relative clauses, and phrasal verbs. Modal verbs are verbs used before other verbs to change the meaning of the main verb to imply ideas such as obligation, permission, possibility, permission, or advice. The unit gives an overview of the proper usage of modal verbs as well as some ideas for teaching them. Next, the construction, usage, and teaching of the passive voice is discussed. Moving on to relative clauses, the difference between defining and non-defining relative clauses is highlighted. Finally, phrasal verbs are explained and divided into three types: intransitive, transitive separable, and transitive inseparable.
