The past simple form is utilised when an action is completed within a definite time. Student errors usually occur when figuring out the irregular forms, card games matching present and past tenses can be a good exercise to practice. Confusion between past continuous, past perfect and past perfect continuous tense can happen. Past perfect relates to completed actions, past continuous relates to actions in the past which happened around a time whereas past perfect continuous relates to past actions that continued up until the point we are thinking about, or beyond.
