Teaching Vocab - More complicated than necessary. For example selecting vocab depends on the level of the student and their learning objectives. They basically need to know the meaning, grammar and pronunciation. Grammatical Structure - Meaning is taught in vocab so the key here is forms and patterns. Once a student learns the rules form the forms/patterns, they can use even the more complicated grammatical structures. Language functions - really not sure of the relevance of this area. IF a student has mastered the meaning (vocab) and use (grammar) of a word or sentence, the appropriate use is a communications issue not an English language issue.
