There are several ways to evaluate students. Diagnostic and placement tests can be used to discover (1) how much knowledge a student already has of the English language, (2) where to place someone not only in the school, but also in the classroom (if you have a variety of students in one classroom), and (3) the level of fluency of the students. This enables the teachers to plan their lessons and evaluations accordingly. Progress tests can show how well a student is doing with his or her studies. Tutorials and evaluations by students can also provide a measure of the abilities of each student but also provide feedback on the teacher's abilities.
