The lesson introduced the various skills involved in learning a new language: receptive and productive skills. It followed with a discussion of receptive skills: reading and listening. It delved into reading: the various purposes and how to help students learn how to read in English. I was very interested in this unit, because I am volunteering in a school where students barely know how to read. It is located in a farming community where from grade 1 to 6 they learn in the same class. I believe that they can benefit from learning to read in both languages at the same time. All examples of student to student work are extremely helpful to me.
