Unit 20 covers troubleshooting common problem situations in the classroom. One of the best ways to avoid future problems is to establish teacher rapport and an appropriate classroom atmosphere during the very first class. First impressions will shape the attitude and behavior of students for the duration of an entire course. After the first meeting, teachers should start off each class with a warm up rather than dive straight into the lesson (Engage Phase). When it comes to larger classes, teachers should plan activities that incorporate pair and group work. Teachers should also discourage the use of students' native language while in English class.
