In this unit I've learned the difference between authentic and inauthentic texts. Authentic texts can be difficult for newer students, but when introduced when students are ready for them can boost confidence. I have also learned how important it is to spark interest in texts before reading them (or before doing listening exercises). Students are more likely to follow something they are interested in. Picking texts/listening exercises carefully so as to be most interesting to the students is crucial to engaging them with reading and listening. Although I honestly don't think anyone is interested in a biography of Elvis Presley. But I could be wrong.
