For an ESL teacher, there are three tenses in English: past, present and future. Each has four aspects: simple, continuous, perfect and perfect continuous. There are, therefore, twelve practical tenses to teach (and learn). Form, circumstance and the resulting tense are important for understanding proper grammar and meaning. Tense is vital to communication.In this unit, I have learned how to correctly plan a lesson using the Engage Study Activate methods. I have learned which stages should involve more activities and which stages should be more focused on the teacher or the students. I have also learned, for example, that interrupting a student with a correction while they are still speaking is not advised.
