I thought that this unit provided a thorough overview of the methodologies of language training. In my experience I have focused heavily on Grammar-Translation and Task-Based Learning; I can see that I have to expand my base and incorporate different strategies into my teaching. I think the Silent Way, especially, should be utilized. I tend to talk too much and not let the students find their own way - I often provide answers too quickly in an effort to save them from frustration. Nevertheless, I can see how using an array of teaching strategies would lessen my talk time. Communicative Language Training and Community Language Learning would provide me with templates for a more inclusive learning environment. The Engage Study Activate methodology also struck me as extremely useful. I like to follow a logical order in my lessons so I would be most apt to apply a Straight Arrow style, however, I would be interested to try a Patchwork or Boomerang approach as well. The section on Feedback and Correction was helpful in that it really stressed the importance of both and gave a framework to follow. I always struggle with balancing correction and praise. Lastly, the templates for ESA are a great resource. I will use them in my practice.
