This unit was a review of the Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect, and Past Perfect Continuous tenses. In this unit I learned several new activate activities to use with students. I always find that the irregulars are the hardest thing for students to learn, and I often have students who have learned several of the past tenses and continue to make errors in the Past Simple because they do not have these memorized. I have previously given a running test in which students are required to learn five more of the irregulars each week, but I will try memory pairs and fish card games to make this more interesting. I love the idea of a detective investigation game, especially if the students are allowed to make this fictional and invent answers (maybe one of the students has committed a crime, and the detective needs to ask them each questions to figure out which student it was). I will also use the idea of giving a student a final situation, and they must tell me what happened or invent a story leading up to this point. My favorite thing about teaching English is that the students have so many opportunities to be creative (as opposed to a math or hard science class), and I have really enjoyed many of these creative activate ideas.
