In unit eighteen, modal verbs and passive voice was described in great detail. Readers were first given an overview of what each is and how they are used. There were also multiple charts to provide assistance when using modals and passive voice. Modals, in summary are the verbs which change the meaning and formality of a sentence. The reader learned how to appropriately use these and how their use may/may not change the meaning of a sentence. I learned how to identify these verbs and various teaching ideas to incorporate in class. Passive voice, would best be described as a way to describe a situation when the focus of who did the action is not the most important or unknown. Passive voice changes the focus of a sentence. In this lesson we were taught to change active voice to passive voice. Lastly, relative clauses and phrasal verbs were also reviewed. I learned the importance of commas when using relative clauses and for phrasal verbs, I learned how to properly form sentences based on the subjects or objects used. Overall, gave insight into many grammar skills which students may struggle with. As such, I learned the importance of always including such in natural conversation in order to make students more familiar and comfortable.
