This unit dealt mainly with the relationship between the teacher and learners. Since the teacher must care about the learners and their learning experience first, there are many things she/he has to take into account. I believe first impressions to be important but I also think a teaching has to consistently come off as passionate, caring and serious in order to win the students trust and respect. In addition to this, a teacher must have extensive knowledge about the subject that is taught. In fact, regardless of the students level, ethnic background or age, a good teacher should be able to answer any question in a way doesn't embarrass learners but instead makes them feel confortable asking more questions and experimenting with the language. Depending on the factors stated above, a teacher is required to adapt the way he/she adresses the students as well as the activities he/she organises. This unit made me realise how important it is to pay attention to the students as a group ( age, attention span, tendency to be shy and reserved) and individually as every learner has specific strengths and weaknesses that need to be monitored then taken care of. I would say this first unit has provided great advice and insight on teaching english.
