Unit two introduces the basic grammar that is found in the English language. It defines the parts of speech and goes into detail with each section, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and so on. It's important to realize that the parts of speech can be considered a universal grammar, in that almost all of the parts can be found in all human languages. However, each language has its own rules for grammar and therefore uses the parts of speech in different ways. It's also important to notice and analyze why some learners of English may have difficultly in particular parts of grammar. For example, some languages such as Russian and Korean do not use articles like 'the' and 'an/a', therefore a native Russian or Korean speaker will most likely have more difficulties learning the proper usage of articles when studying or communicating in English. As a teacher, they must identity and focus on the negative transfer and make their students aware of the grammar differences between their native language and English. I have learned that the parts of speech can be broken down into many different details, such as labeling articles as transitive or intransitive. I also had not known all the types of adverbs, such as manner, frequency, linking, and so on.
