I have learnt, in this unit, that because there are so many different future tenses and ways of using future meaning that it will be one of the most complicated subjects to teach. For example, I was unaware of 'going to future' is considered to be a tense, even though it is frequently used naturally by native English speakers. I have learnt that the present simple and the present continuous are normally used as present tenses, but can also be used as things or events happening in the future. Along with the other tenses I will need to revisit and revise the future tenses, so that I am confident in their usage and will be able to teach them confidently. I have learnt that forms of the future tenses also follow the rules of grammatical construction already studied in previous units. I now realise learning these patterns will be vital to enable me to teach the tenses confidently and to assist me in identifying students' grammatical errors. I realise students often get confused between 'be going to' and the future simple tense (to go) and therefore I need to be able to predict and correct such mistakes. I have found the teaching ideas in this unit provide helpful suggestions for lessons that I will be able to incorporate into my own teaching.
