Writing lesson plans has several purposes: it aids in planning, is a working document to help keep the teacher on target, and acts as a record of what the class has done. Lesson plans should be simple, consistent in structure, have an anticipated time for each activity, a balance of skills, and flexible. It should also contain the following: learner objectives, personal aims, language point, teaching aids, anticipated problems, procedure, phase, timing, interaction, class level, number of students, and date/time. Things to consider when planning the sequence of lessons are flexibility, goals, revision, and variety/balance. I think the most important aspects of lesson planning is to keep the objectives in mind and to be flexible. Remembering the lesson objectives when creating a lesson plan will ensure that the activities are centered around the new language being taught. A well organized lesson based around a single topic should lead to a smoother class flow and make it easier for the students to follow. It's also important to be flexible with the lesson because spontaneous changes may need to be made depending on the students or activities. Being flexible helps tailor the class to the students' needs which will also help their learning.
