This unit was very useful as I learned about the different methodologies used for learning and teaching language such as Grammar-translation; Audio lingualism; Presentation, Practice and Production; Task-Based Learning; Communicative Language Teaching; Community Language Learning; The silent way;Suggestopaedia and the Lexical Approach.I learned that each method has it's pluses and minuses but certain conclusions can be drawn for example students need as much exposure to the language as possible. I learned that the recommended method for this course is ESA which stands for Engage, Study and Activate. I learnt about the strategies of elicitation, real objects (realia), Flashcards (pictures), drawings, Asking for the question, Gap-fill, Lists, Follow on Questions,Concept Descriptions, Mime, and Definitions. I learned that each strategy has it's place and should be appropriate for the level of the language learner. Strategies also need to be varied to avoid predictability. I learned about variations of ESA such as 'Straight Arrow','Boomerang' and 'Patchwork' ESA lessons. I learned ideas and activities about how to do each stage of ESA. I learned about the importance of giving feedback and corrections. I also learned some correction techniques.
