The following is an overview and what I learnt from this unit. I have learnt the present tenses, how they are used and when to use them . I have also learnt the typical errors students usually make with this tenses and how the teachers go about to correct these errors. The followings are the present tenses: I have presented them according to how I understood them. 1. The simple present tense is used to talk about our habits and general truths. It is formed with the base form of the infinitive. Form: Subject + first form of the verb + object Questions and negatives are made with do and does. 2. The present continuous tense is used to talk about things that are happening at the moment of speaking. Form: Subject + is / am / are + -ing form Questions are made by putting the auxiliary verb before the subject. 3. The present perfect tense is used to talk about past events that have some bearing on the present. Form: Subject + has / have + past participle form of the verb Questions are made by putting the auxiliary verb before the subject. 4. The present perfect continuous tense is used to talk about events and situations that started in the past and have continued up to the present.
