Unit five considered themes (theories of learning and teaching) and presented scenarios and models for teaching. The unit also gave some techniques that could be applied to concepts and situations that we?d be asked to teach our students. We looked at how to use case studies, how to block material into frameworking (Frameworking which is already an existing business study model and therefore familiar to a student), Problem based learning (wherein students are given a scenario and asked to use their already existing business knowledge within new English vocabulary and structures), how (and which) games to use and best apply for student learning. Then we looked at Computer Aided Language Learning (a huge tool in modern language study wherein students use websites, web tools and say-speak, audio tools to learn), how to use and apply the Speech Act theory. The unit rounded out by providing some spectacular language lesson plans and materials. As an aspiring TESOL instructor this unit was especially encouraging, inspiring and I feel particularly useful. Selecting appropriate games, tools and structures in which to present materials is particularly (personally) very frightening. I know I will return to this unit as I move into classroom work.
