Unit 12 Teaching Productive Skills I learnt that the students need to be engaged right for the start of the lesson. The subject must be one that encourages them to expand on their vocabulary. Students prefer to speak in class rather than write. Writing is more difficult for the students and this more often than not left for home work. The concern here is the students may not do their homework and with writing there is no immediate correction from the teacher. The teacher needs to make writing as much fun as speaking, encouraging them with compliments; work in groups and have projects that require the students to fill in details of a picture or story book page, which will encourage their vocabulary, their imagination and they will be keen to write down their answers. Both speaking and writing are important and when teaching these, writing is as important because of the different pronunciations for English words and spelling which may sound the same word. For example : Their And There As a teacher the goal should be that when the student has finished his/her education that both speaking are reading are of a high level which will allow them to choose the careers based on their knowledge of English should they wish to communicate Internationally.
