I have learned the different methodologies used to convey the concept of a language point from many different approaches. There are multiple ways to teach students new language skills. These include grammar-translation, PPP, CLT, CLL, and drilling. Each one having their own set backs and advantages showing that a teacher should be using a combination of various methods. Perhaps the most useful information in this unit si how to correct a student's mistake and errors. It is imperative that the student works out the problem themselves with as little involvement from the teacher unless it is a last resort. Corrections should always be positive and a teacher should wait until the student is done speaking before correcting. The ESA approach is very useful as it creates a system for students to learn about each language point. My favorite being the boomerang method. Starting the lesson by warming them up (engaging them) and then beginning an activity that uses the previous lesson point. From there, enter the study stage and have the students work on pronunciation and text before using that language point in another activity. This unit expanded upon assess the needs of students as well as helping ne teachers discover what methods work best with their classes.
