This lesson emphasized the importance of building lessons differently when addressing receptive and productive skills. Students should be encouraged to write in the classroom despite the time constraints associated with teaching writing in a new language. Doing activities that encourage writing in the classroom such as creating comics or writing simple captions to match magazine or newspaper pictures is a great way to get students writing without consuming too much of a class period. While writing is mostly conserved for homework, I feel by discussing homework and even getting started on it while students are still in class is a good way to encourage them to complete the work on their own.
