This unit focused on conditionals and reported speech. This is a complicated topic, even for native speakers. For me, at least, I only knew these rules because it sounds incorrect when they are not followed. I had never learned the reasoning behind this. This unit synthesized all the previous lessons; the tenses of the clauses is the determining factor for how the sentence will be put together. In reported speech, the tense of the speech, and whether it was directly or indirectly reported determines how the sentence will be put together. This is definitely a more advanced topic, and in my classroom I will not teach this material until all the tenses have been covered to avoid confusion.
