This unit explained the characteristics of a good teacher and a good learner, outlined the different roles of a teacher, explained the differences between young and adult learners, explained the most commonly used language level classifications and, finally, listed some of the reasons students choose to attend English classes. The description of the teacher's different roles, together with the description of different types and different levels of learner have helped me appreciate the importance of adapting the teaching role to the group and also given me some initial insight into how using different techniques can help to retain motivation and ultimately help ensure student learning is optimised.
