This unit was about dealing with potential problems that might arise in the classroom. I was reminded that on the first day of class it is important for students to get to know each other, establish rapport, and discover motivations for being in the class. A common problem that arises is a gap between faster and slower learners, or learners at different levels. I learned that some good ways to handle this problem are to pair high and low students, establish groups where each person has a unique role, or assign different tasks to different students based on their ability. This requires much flexibility on the part of the teacher but ultimately shows students you care for their needs as individuals.
