The unit addressed modal auxiliary and phrasal verbs, the passive voice and relative clauses. Although it may not seem so at first, these areas, especially the verbs, can be somewhat difficult for students. The challenge with learning modal verbs is understanding the different meanings expressed by them. Exposure to level-appropriate, authentic materials as well as practice in real-life situations will help to clarify the differences. I agree with the recommendation to teach phrasal verbs as vocabulary items. Students will understand and use them more readily if they learnt/memorised their meaning. To master use of the passive voice, students will require a sound understanding of verb tenses.
