There are 4 basic skills in learning a language (English): 1 reading skills, 2 listening skills, 3 speaking skills, and 4 writing skills. The first two are receptive skills, whereas the latter two are productive skills. All four skills are equally important when learning a language. There are several ways we read and listen, and they are as follows. Predictive skills, specific information - scanning, general idea - skimming, detailed information and deduction from context. When choosing a topic to teach the teacher should choose a topic that create interests for all students. The teacher should engage with the students so that students are motivated and so they will participate in discussion, etc.
