This unit covers the different types of assessment methods. First, there are tests and examination. These can be split into two types: ones used in the classroom, like placement, diagnostic, progress, and practice exams; and external exams, such as the Cambridge English examinations. The purpose of exams is to judge a student's knowledge of English and their progress/growth, as well as to direct the teacher in choosing what areas to focus lessons on and to evaluate the way the class is going, as well as to give students some indication of how they are doing. In addition to tests, there is also the option for tutorials and evaluation by the students, which give a chance for the students to voice their input on both their own progress and how the class is going.
