I found this unit exceedingly helpful in my understanding of formal English sentence structures. As a native speaker of English in Canada, I often become immersed in the vernacular of where I reside. Although everyday English vernacular in the city can still use proper sentence structure, it was informative to learn about formal names of the parts of speech in a sentence. There are times when I become confused when trying to form proper sentence structures due to the many exceptions that were noted throughout this unit, such as verb conjugations. However, upon practicing and reflecting on my comprehension of this unit by denoting the parts of speech in various sentences, I am more comfortable in my understanding of how sentence structures are formed in English.
