This unit deals with a topic incredibly interesting to me, phonetics and pronunciation. Pronunciation is one of the most overlooked aspects of teaching english, and one of the most difficult things to teach. The most important thing for a teacher to do is be able to demonstrate and explain proper mouth placement and pronunciation technique, and to correct students when necessary to be sure their speech can be understood. Important knowledge sets that can increase fluency are proper intonation and stress. For example, ensuring that students voices rise at the end of a question and that they are putting the proper stress on the words in a sentence used to convey specific meanings. This can be achieved through a series of activities and drills outlined in the chapter.
