In this unit I learned about course books and lesson materials. Authentic materials and created materials are different but provide different benefits when helping students learn language. Course books come in a variety of forms including hard copy, cassettes, dictionaries etc. There are advantages and disadvantages to using course books. Some advantages include providing a balanced set of lessons, provides good ideas for the teacher, and is appealing to the students. Some disadvantages include it being to predictable and may not fulfill the needs to a specific group of students. There are numerous ways to approach selecting the appropriate course book for a group of students. After this Unit, I feel I have a better understanding of course books and lesson materials.
