This unit gave a thorough look at the pros and cons of using a coursebook in the classroom. One point I can relate to, is being careful to not follow the coursebook to do everything; this can make it too predictable for the students, and non-motivational for the teacher. I do like the accessibility of pre-organized lessons, and how this can allow a teacher to plan many things in the future. But I believe that there should always be an intertwining of some type of supplemental activity, in order to keep lessons exciting. I think coursebooks have their place among beginners, but I would prefer created materials as much as possible, because, as language ability advances, there must be customization to maintain challenge, and keep receptive and productive skills balanced.
