I've never really thought about the differences between receptive and productive skills, which I think is very important for anyone studying a new language. Obviously, both receptive and productive skills are incredibly important to understand a language; with only one of the two, you can't keep up with a conversation, or receive new information! Only the two types of skills combined will allow for a full, thorough understanding of the language. This is also important because different people learn in different ways; while one learner may be more receptive to receptive skill learning, others will be more receptive to learning through the productive skills. Remembering that fact will be important, so that I don't just teach to the skills that I learn from the best.
