This unit begins with a history and explanation of methods of language teaching. The evolution of the methods are better outlined, I feel, in the video because more information and historical references are given. After the brief overviews of the methods, the encouraged method, ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) is covered. The text dives into the ESA method, describes each stage, what the stage hopes to accomplish, and then gives examples of ways to incorporate the stage into a lesson plan. What I like about ESA is the structure, but also the flexibility. Boomerang and Patchwork variations of ESA keep students and teachers on their toes. I feel the ESA method will be very helpful for my future because it allows for so many different learning activities conducive to learning.
