This unit dealt briefly with potential problems in teaching, including large groups and mixed-ability groups. Throughout this course, there has been quite a bit of emphasis placed on group / pair work. This is probably what I find most helpful in addressing these issues. This is the positive side of peer pressure - allowing students to interact with peers and be supported / helped and even corrected by their peers. If the teacher keeps an eye on the groups / pairs, this can really be useful. In addition, the use of small groups focuses on group results rather than individual results and reduces the possible embarrassment of making a mistake. For the students' future, this type of work is important since there is more emphasis than ever on globalization and collaboration.
