This unit covered the qualities of a good teach, the qualities of a good student, the possible motivations for learning English, the differences between adult learners and young learners, and the varying levels of learners. It is important to understand the level of the learner and their age as these issues can give insight into the learner's motivations, or lack thereof, and their possible strengths and weaknesses in learning a language. For example, a young learner may not have chosen to learn English and are instead required to learn it for school or to satisfy a parent's wishes. This may cause their motivation to learn to be very low and the teacher will need to devise creative ways to encourage the student to explore and actively learn the language for themselves.
