The parts of speech unit allowed me to survey the broad areas of how the English language is composed and how sentences are formed. While relatively simple subjects such as nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and conjunctions were topics that I have had drilled into me over the course of my education in the States, other more detailed explanations, such as participle use, indefinite versus definite articles, and transitive versus intransitive verb use was never perfectly taught to me in a formal setting. As such, the unit taught me a formal structure for the more detailed nuances of the English language, allowing me to access these rules more directly when helping future students, rather than simply citing my own personal comfortability with the language as the source of my knowledge.
