This unit was very useful and I rather enjoyed learning about the receptive skills: reading and listening. I found it very interesting how the text breaks down the reasons for reading and listening, illustrating how those can have impacts on the skill, as well as the separate group of specialist skills. I had never before considered how these specialist skills play into the student's undestanding of a text before. As a teacher, I've found that I struggle teaching students who are not comfortable only knowing maybe half of the words in a text, and often my students will stop the lesson at least once per sentence to ask the meaning of a nonessential word. I do wish there was more information on how to overcome this problem, but the discussion of this phenomena was still helpful.
