This unit was a beast! There was so much information combined into one unit it could easily have been two or three! I appreciated that the lesson stressed the importance of teaching pronunciation and phonology as integral to the learning language process. I agree with this as the pitch, pace and power of how we say things truly communicates the meaning and feeling behind the words. This is the real essence of effective communication. Learning the Phonemic Symbols were quite challenging as this is something that myself, and I would hazard to say most native English speakers, have not been broadly educated. I appreciated the examples of techniques to teach students correct pronunciation by demonstration and various methods of practice, like nonsense words or humming and singing.
