This unit covers evaluating and testing of students. It explains the different types of tests used in a language school for different purposes, such as determining a student's level and therefore the most appropriate class (placement tests), determining detailed class level at the start of a course (diagnostic tests), checking for gaps and gauging acquired knowledge (progress tests), and preparing for external examinations (practice tests). The unit also summarised the main external English tests currently in use, and their level of difficulty. This was very helpful in understanding also the limitations of TEFL training - so understanding, for example, that TEFL training would not be sufficient to equip a teacher to teach students studying to pass Cambridge CAE or CPE examinations.
