Unit 11 taught me about the two receptive skills; listening and reading and that there are basically two \"motives\" for using the receptive skills; for a purpose or for information. We also have the different ways to use the receptive skills, which are with predictive skills, by skimming or scanning, reading/listening for detailed information or to use the ability to deduct from context. To pre-teach difficult language versus expose students to some unknown language, create and interest by using a variety of topics and use of comprehension checks, are ways to approach a subject while teaching and training receptive skills that this unit went through.
