In this unit, I learnt the different methods to evaluate students level of English. The unit explained the different types of tests, including placement tests, diagnostic tests, progress tests, practice tests and external exams. A placement test and diagnostic tests are done at the beginning of a course to understand a student's level, what they do and don't know and how to place them in classes. A progress test checks how a student is progressing and what information they have retained. A practice test is to prepare them for the final external exam which is sat at the end of a course. The unit also explained the different exams relate to EFL and ESOL.
