This unit covered methods of assessing students' language ability levels and progress, primarily through testing. These tests may fall under the categories of placement, progress, diagnostic, practice, and achievement and external examinations; the purpose of each, as well as the when they should be used and what they should contain, are also detailed. A list of general external English examinations is also provided. In my current role as a teacher, this information is largely irrelevant to me as my school does not do English tests of any kind, but it does provide me with ideas of how I can keep track of my students' progress and retaining of knowledge.
