This lesson illustrates the details of teaching receptive skills. The first receptive skill is Reading. Regarded as easier than listening, reading allows the students to reference the material several times in order to grasp its meaning. Exercises with a focus on read material allow the teacher to reinforce unusual vocabulary but may hinder the students growing abilities to grasp a connotational understanding of the material based on context. The second receptive skill is listening. Listening exercises require a more immediate understanding and force the students to grasp the material based on a limited understanding given the level of their vocabulary.
